Man, I'm still (buurrrpppp! excuse me!) full from Saturday night!! Sorry we had to bug out early. My wife Tamara was not being anti social, she was coming down with a migraine as we drove to the lake house. And yes, you are right.....I still don't know what she saw in me! (ha)She makes me look good.....
Two things happened to me today that I want to share:
1) I went to Baptist and had a cardiac calcium screening test done. This is a new state of the art test where they can actually see the calcium deposits in around your heart that can signal a blockage. So, instead of waiting on a heart attack, and then having a cath/stent insertion to see where your blockages are, they can detect them this way! (For those of you that didn't know, I was in the ER in 11/06 with chest pains and still have them even to this day). I did this for peace of mind if they don't find anything, and hey, if they do........let's 'git r done!' The best part is that it only cost $100 (no insurance accepted). If you or anyone in your family has a serious cardiac health history (my dad had two heart attacks before age 55), please go to http://www.mbhs.org/ and type in cardiac calcium screening in the search box.
2) After my screening, I went to my primary care doctor and had a pre-cancerous mole taken off my back. I have two scars on my face from a history of skin cancers in my family as well. I was glad to have it removed and sent to the lab, but I kinda got ticked off at my orders: No running or sweating until Saturday. (I've got five stitches) So, it looks like I'm laid up for the week.
What really ticked me off was that I ate so much food on Saturday and Sunday (Sal and Mookies off State Street. If you haven't tried it, please do!!!!!!) If I had of known I would be down for the week, I certainly would have made better eating choices. Back to the diet today!!
Thought for the week: "Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you change a person's life. For better or worse."
Since we've been in such a kum bi yah spirit this past weekend, I want you all to know that, because of each and every one of you smiling at me on Saturdays is the reason I'm so happy when you see me joking. Yes, I can be a goofball, but like I said in an earlier blog, we are never promised tomorrow. Even though my life has been changed for the better by all of you, I want my gestures and my actions to help you press forward to October and beyond. Ok, enough of the Barry Manilow writing....... : )

We were really beginning to worry about you those first few miles. You really looked like you were in pain. Glad changing shoes helped. Thanks for the cardiac screening info. Didn't even know that existed. Have a good week - keep us posted on your results.
Donna
I think that having a mole removed is a sorry excuse for not running this week. Put a band-aid on it and get out there.
Just kidding.
I'm sorry I never met your wife or son. I wasn't being anti-social either, I just couldn't get out of my chair. :)
don't you fret. evry gesture of yours definately helps many of us along!!! i don't read many blogs, but i ALWAYS read yours!! you make my day!
and as for the 5 day rest, enjoy it while you can!!
Kelvin,
You are such an essential part of our group. There are many times that I am barely making the run and then you come by and crack a joke to take my mind off from the pain. Thanks, Suzanne
Hey,
I hope the results of your tests turn out favorably. My dad had a quadruple bypass before age 50 and coincidently had a precancerous mole removed from his face week.
When are ya'll headed for San Antonio? You inspired me to change our vacation to San Antonio. I really wanted to go to Schlitterbahn and after researching the area I found there is lots for little kid to do; 2 kid's museums, Wildlife Ranch,Natural bridge caverns, along with the water park. We are leaving most likely on the 8th.
Have a good week.
Shelley
Please let us know the results of your test. And I agree, enjoy the 5 day rest. I'm "resting" right now too due to a fat, sore knee. (Gotta get those new shoes.) Are you applying sunscreen before you run? I'm fair and red like you and am also skin cancer waiting to happen. Sucks, doesn't it??!!! I love your thought for the week and your Barry Manilow writing. And if only I could bottle your humor.... I'd be rich!!! See ya Saturday!
If you read my blog.... I was pullin' the same "manilow".... tear eyed "stuff" and You were right at the top of my list for encouraging inspiration! HECK... You don't even really have to look up any more (of course it is better when you do!) or even comment (also better when you do 'cause it is always cheery!)... but I can always pull from one of the OTHER times you have said something goofy and cheery and all that stuff ... and I laugh just remembering one of the others!!!
You are the BEST! Hope all your med tests come back with flying colors of great news!
Lisa
Marathon Makeover 2007 would not be the same without you! You inspire us and tickle us all at the same time. Keep it up and let us know the results of your tests!
Sheila
Hey Kelvin
You're a great joy to have out on the road. Thanks for talking about the test. I'm going to pass that info on.
Look forward to seeing you next time.
Debra
I had a CT scan of my chest Friday. Hope your tests come out OK, chest pains are nothing to sneeze at. I think Sal & Mookie's makes the best pizza. We eat there like 2x a month.
