Reflections of a middle aged man

Well guys, I'm beginning to pick up on everyone's sense of urgency with 48 days left to go. Are you getting as excited about it as I am?? I just wish we could be that song I hear every now and then....."Wake me up when September ends". Just between us, I would rather skip the 20 and 22 milers if they are going to be as hot as the 18!! I know, I know,...training is good for us. So is eating broccoli, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.......

To echo what Micah blogged about, yoga class has been very helpful. I know Heather, the instructor thinks I hate her (I did call her a evil, evil woman......) but it's really not her fault if she does these poses and stretches that make me scream for my mommy........No seriously, it's tough for anybody that has never done this sort of thing especially big ole 280 lb men. I think it has made a difference in my running. I used to get these hip flexor cramps around the 5-6 mile mark. Now, since yoga class has started, they have stopped. It's really cool having a runner as a yoga instructor who understands where you hurt and what parts are sore. (She still is evil..... :)

If you would have asked me twenty years ago while I was sitting in the ATO fraternity house at USM drinking my favorite beverage of choice and chasing the co-eds what I would be doing in 2007, I can PROMISE you I would not say..."I want to train for a marathon and take yoga!" I also said I would never be a nurse back then either when the teachers asked me too, but who knew????

In September, I turn 41. I can honestly say that my 40th year of existance has been a good one. Better health, better frame of mind, less doubt and discouragement, and new friends. Thanks to Marathon Makeover, I hope the next 40 will be great!!

Train on Marathoners!! No Reserves!! No Retreats!! No Regrets!!

Ditto the comments that we need to plan a birthday dinner or something to celebrate. What day?
Maybe we can do something Friday before the 22 miler at a restaurant...
Denver set a record high today, so I guess the weather gods are out to get me. It is cooler up in the mountains and it's actually cooler in the shade even in Denver, so I guess I'll survive.
See you in September...
